Clinical Ophthalmic Technician

Department: Tech Dept

Reports to: Ophthalmic Supervisor

Location: On Site - 764 Second St, Manchester NH, 03102

Travel Required: Potential coverage in satellite location, Londonderry, NH

Job Summary: This individual is responsible for clinical support in the office. This includes rooming patients, conducting pre-visit testing and providing support to the provider.


Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a health care setting required.
  • Experience in ophthalmology preferred.
  • Experience in Applanation Tonometry, Refractometry, Lensometry, Ocular and Medical history documentation and a variety of Ophthalmic diagnostic testing preferred.

  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with providers and staff

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients from waiting room to exam rooms
  • Conducts necessary testing to include:
    - Pachymetry
    - Retinal/Optic nerve OCT imaging
    - Fundus Photos
    - Automated Periphery
    - Color and Stereo Testing, others as directed
  • Administers eye drops for tonometry, dilation and prepares patient for laser procedures
  • Documents in electronic medical records
  • Obtains appropriate consent forms
  • Conducts patient phone calls to review medical concerns
  • Schedules patient appointments
  • Processes medication refills as directed by the provider

Retina Ophthalmologist Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care & Diagnosis
    • Conduct comprehensive eye exams and diagnostic imaging (OCT, fluorescein angiography, ultrasound, etc.).
    • Diagnose and manage retinal diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, and detachments.
    • Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and latest clinical guidelines.
  • Treatment & Surgical Procedures
    • Perform in-office procedures such as intravitreal injections (anti-VEGF, steroids).
    • Conduct laser treatments for retinal conditions (e.g., photocoagulation, panretinal laser therapy).
  • Collaboration & Patient Education
    • Work closely with optometrists, general ophthalmologists, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive patient care.
    • Educate patients and families about retinal diseases, treatment options, and preventive care.
    • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in retina care through continuing education and research.
  • Administrative & Compliance
    • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation following regulatory standards.
    • Participate in clinical trials and research, if applicable.
    • Adhere to HIPAA and healthcare compliance policies.


Qualifications

  • Education: Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
  • Residency: Completed ophthalmology residency program.
  • Fellowship: Completed a 1–2 year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery.
  • Licensing & Certification: Board-certified or board-eligible in ophthalmology; NH medical license required.
  • Skills:
    • Expertise in medical and surgical retina care.
    • Strong diagnostic and surgical skills.
    • Excellent communication and patient interaction abilities.
    • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.


Work Environment

  • Outpatient clinical setting.
  • May require evening or weekend hours for emergency retinal cases.
  • Participate in office on call responsibility.

Patient Service Representative – Call Center Scheduling Department

Department: Call Center

Reports to: Call Center Supervisor

Location: 764 Second St, Manchester NH, 03102

Travel Required: None – On site

Job Summary: This individual is responsible for answering telephones, scheduling various appointments, and documenting phone conversations.


Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in health care setting performing similar work activities including, but not limited to clerical, billing or insurance processing is preferred.
  • Demonstrates skills in motivating and training professional staff.

  • Ability to interact with physicians and staff and participate as a team member with individuals inside and outside the department.


Patient Service Representative Responsibilities

  • Handles all incoming calls. Including screening calls for the appropriate person and forwarding messages.
  • Monitors voicemails and returns patient calls.
  • Monitors generic office email account.
  • Schedules patient appointments:
    • Screens calls for emergency appointments following triage protocol. Schedules as appropriate.
    • Schedules routine eye visits and instructing patients to obtain referrals.
    • Discuss balances or co payment responsibility at the time of scheduling.
    • Confirm patient demographic and all insurance information.
    • Accurately schedule various procedures (YAG/IPL, PRP, SLT) retinal consults, oculoplastic consults, visual field testing, contact lens updates and contact lens insertion teaching.
  • Support schedule management for providers time out of office.
  • Assist in insurance eligibility, processing patient letters, reminder calls as needed and cross train to cover front desk needs.
